Landscaping is what determines the first impression of your home the result of your landscaping efforts is what people see much before they enter your house. For people to have a genial and happy feeling about coming to visit you, your landscaping needs to be top notch. There are many reasons why you might be feeling making constructive changes to your landscape design in Houston. Whatever the case might be, sprucing up your landscaping is something best left to professionals. Here are some important tips which would make things a lot easier for you

  • First and foremost, ensure that you work with the best available Houston landscaping company. A reputed landscaping company like L3 Designs brings with it the necessary skill set and a wealth of experience handling landscaping projects, and your home can benefit immensely.
  • Communicate your landscaping ideas clearly to the Houston landscaper you hire and listen back for important advice and suggestions. Any suggestion you might get from an experienced landscaper carries a lot of weight and your gardens and lawns are likely to benefit from them.
  • Creatively use all the landscaping tools available to you to create clearly demarcated areas in your front lawn and garden. Use low bushes, shrubs and flowers to create an impression of segregated space, use bricks and paving material to good effect, and ensure that each area looks good on its own and also as part of the whole scheme of things.
  • Maintenance is crucial for landscaping. Any landscape company in Houston will tell you that a good maintenance run on your landscaping will leave things looking new and shiny. Remove weed, cut grass to perfect size and regularly clean your surroundings.

Don't Neglect Your Lawncare in Your Houston Home

Lawns are an integral part of your home landscaping. Lush, green lawns look fresh and elegant and give the impression of cleanliness and vibrancy, adding zest and color to the overall look and feel and ambience of your house. For this reason, it is important that you never neglect your lawns and keep them looking fresh and cheerful. Lawns need recurrent care and careful handling to keep looking good, and as any Houston landscaper would tell you, a little bit of work goes a long way. Maintaining lawns can be relatively easy if you work in short spurts on a daily basis. Left for longer intervals, the work required can become excessive and there might even be instances of damage. So, do not neglect your lawn care and start following these tips now

  • Hire the services of a reputed Houston landscaping company to help you with your lawn care efforts. With professional guidance, your lawns are sure to fare much better.
  • Learn the basics of lawn care from a professional Houston landscaperlike L3 Designs. Lawns need different kind of maintenance based on the current season and your care efforts should be focused accordingly.
  • If areas of your lawn need reseeding, carry out reseeding work during autumn, which is the best time for grass seeds to form deep roots.
  • Use high nitrogen fertilizers during autumn months to provide maximum nourishment.
  • During winter, ensure that your grass is at minimum size to reduce damage from the cold.
  • During spring months when the snow melts, watch out for snow molding and regularly clean your lawn for a good, healthy look.
  • Rake leaves and debris off your lawn regularly, or mulch them into your lawn along with fertilizers to provide important nutrients.
  • Consider aerating the soil of your lawn once a year.

Landscaping....... the

After more than 25 years of planning and building gardens, the world I started out working in has really changed. The industry is full of talented and creative individuals and is finally showing its worth. The realm of landscaping has exploded and people are anxious to have a quality of life at home never seen before. Outdoor kitchens, Luxury Pools, Cabanas, Patios, Art and of course all things green !

I recently came across this article which provides some talking points to consider when you are thinking about taking the plunge. At L3 Designs we work very hard at to develop plans and projects that respect not only your family life but also you and your investment. How deep you go into the water is entirely up to you, but know that we are here to creatively guide you through.

A couple weeks ago I discussed horticulture's behavioral benefits. If that didn't inspire you to grab a trowel and plant something, there is another benefit: Money.

A well-landscaped yard is the 401K of the plant world. Landscaping adds between 7 percent and 20 percent to the resale value of your home. Clemson University and Michigan State University research indicate an average 11 percent increase.

An attractive lawn and plantings are doubly important in the eyes of real estate agents. Landscaping not only adds substantially to the dollar value of the property, but makes prospective buyers feel the house itself has been well-maintained. A well-planted yard significantly increases the speed at which a home is sold.

In an interesting study similar homes were shown to realtors and home owners. One set of homes contained generous landscaping, while the others had minimal plantings. Both realtors and homeowners valued the well-landscaped homes 30 percent higher.

The key phrase is "well-landscaped."............

................We can each do our part in landscape beautification. Your home value will increase, and our cities will look great. We will truly be "Growing Together."

The Unexpected

Recently I was watching a video produced by the Houston Symphony. It was a "behind the scenes" look at a new opera production "Wozzeck : Opera in Concert". I was immediately struck by a very fundamental approach set out by Dr. Anthony Brandt of Rice University. He lays out a direct and multifaceted approach of what it is that draws us to art.

In this case music as art.

Simply stated - "Surprise Me......Persuade Me......Move Me"

The immediate connection to the value of the gardens we design and build for our clients was obvious and recognizable. Our goal is to provide you with a design and execution full of surprise. Moments that exceed your thoughts of "what is possible". To take you on a journey that not only "persuades" you but ultimately "moves you". Our greatest joy comes when a client has that moment when these all come together. Sitting in their garden - knowing it is their very own. Designed and built specially for them.

We are excited about our most recent project ! We are in the midst of finalizing a 26th Floor penthouse garden for a client in mid-town Houston. Together, we have commissioned a fabulous sculptured bench from the renowned artist Marie Khouri of Vancouver, Canada. Her work has been featured throughout the art world and we are looking forward to the collaboration.

The "Spine" is an organic yet dramatic piece which will become the centerpiece of this roof top garden. Pictures of the finished space will follow.........

Sharing Ideas

Working, sketching, drawing at a feverish pitch these days. Currently working on the development of an Italianate garden here in Houston. This fountain was inspired by a piece I photographed while in Florence. The original fountain sits out on a 5 way street corner. The building creates a severly acute angle with a fountain literally hanging out onto the road !

What a City - inspiration everywhere !

What a client !
